Salhus School
Salhus School is situated outside the little town,Brønnøysund with ab. 5000 inhabitants. This town is a regional centre where “The Brønnøysund Registre” is the major industry in addition to other service-institutions and education. The school was earlier named Brønnøy Central-school, but was changed to Salhus School in 2001. This because it is situated in the outskirts of town called Salhus Our school is the largest of the three schools in our municipality and also among the largest schools in our county ;North-Norway Salhus school has 463 pupils from 1.st-10th grade. These are organized in three departments, each with their leader. In secondary classes(8th-10th)there are about 130 students and 20 teachers. In the Comenius project there are 80 students participating Many of our pupils come from rural areas (farmers, fishermen ) and take the bus to school, but most pupils come from newly-built areas close to the school building. Timetables for 9 th and 10 th class The school is a combined primary and secondary school where most of the pupils come from the rural districts and brought to school by bus. The school is modern and we have space and rooms for most activities. We are pleased with our art-and music departments and as to modern technology we are well -equipped Organizing lessons and activities in monthly/weekly plans means that we easily can arrange our curriculum to suit different subjects and projects. We have full integration of all pupils and find it important to increase the density of teachers in all classes in order to look out for exclusion of pupils and also pupils with special educational needs.
Salhus school has never been a part of any national or European projects, and therefore it would be of great and a sincere motivation for all of us being a part of this project. The target pupils from 9 th and 10 th forms are pupils eager to learn and would most certainly give their best in communication and in the activities involved in our project. To help them “look at Europe” by cooperating with other countries will be an interesting challenge. This will create a new and fascinating dimension to our curriculum, with special focus on arts and new technologies. To be able to share posters,CD’s,films etc will definetely inspire all of us. We hope to make our “Comenius Corner” with exhibitions, posters etc as the project developes. The project will hopefully also have positive effects on pupils and teachers working as a team in planning and evaluation of the project.
